do overweight mothers have more painful labours/births?

and has anyone got experience on having a very active pregnancy does it help? as in does labour go smoother less painful?

Yes, being active definitely does help with labor and delivery. When you're an active mother you usually have a strong pelvic floor, drink more fluids, get your blood pumping more and tend to be more flexible. This is not only good for labor and delivery, but the whole pregnancy. Elevated blood flow gets more oxygen to the baby. Exercise releases endorphins which put you in a great mood. You'll be less likely to tear if your pelvis floor is strong. Active women tend to have less body pain and are usually in better control of their bodies. Active women usually labor the shortest amount of time and recover faster. All this being said, there are no guarantees because every pregnancy is different. I'm usually very active, but can't be because exercising makes me contract. Right now I get the most minimal exercise. I hope it doesn't hinder me.

Can you get pregnancy symptoms a week after conception?

I had sex a week and two days ago,and I have Bloating, stomach cramps, sore nipples, gas, Taste changes(things taste really different), low energy/fatigue, and sex hurts more than usual for some reason. Now, I know people will say they might be pms symptoms, but im not due for my period till the 26th. It's the 15th now, and ive had these symptoms the past couple days. the sex was the 6th. the start of my last period was the 26th and lasted 4-5 days. I had sex during ovulation and used the pull out method (bad idea i know/its not a method). Anyway, is it possible these are early pregnancy symptoms or is my mind playing tricks on me?!! could it be ovulation symptoms or do those not exist..i dont remember having ovulation symptoms before but maybe i wasnt paying attention and am now just cuz i think i could be pregnant.

So,is it possible for symptoms this early?

I was about 3 weeks when I started getting symptoms.

Pregnancy and Down Syndrome in Women Over 35?

My wife is 36 and just got pregnant with our first child. We've been trying to figure out what to do with testing for Down Syndrome and what the benefits are over the invasive versions (Amnio and CVS) vs the non-invasive (ultrasound & blood work). Any input would be helpful.

look at it this way and ask yourself this....what are you going to do with the information that will be presented to you? will you love this child no matter what? if the answer is yes...then why bother with the testing. if the answer is no or you need to prepare in case something might be wrong, then go for the amnio or cvs to find out with 100% certainty. all the other "tests" (blood work such as afp and ultra-sounds) are not 100% and only will tell you the risks of having a child with down syndrome and they are notorious for false-positives (this is the afp or triple screen I am talking about now) they cause needless worry and fear.
I had my second child when I was 37 yrs old, I went through all the testing and they found out I was at an increased risk for a child with down syndrome. I went in for the level 2 ultra-sound and they did all their measurments and found that my son was just fine. My third and last son...we failed again (also failed with first son at 25 yrs old) and I thought to myself...here we go again all the testing, money out of the pocket and everything will be ok. this time during the level 2 they found soft markers for down syndrome with the biggest one being he had a congenital heart defect called av-canal (heart defects are quite common in babies born with DS) because I needed to know for my own peace of mind and to prepare I opted for the amnio at 20 weeks. they hardest part of the entire procedure was waiting for the results...a week of waiting anxiously I get a phone call telling me that my son did indeed have down syndrome...trisomy 21 non disjunction to be exact. today he is almost 5 yrs old and the sweetest and sometimes naughtiest little boy who is the sunshine of my soul. I was glad I knew ahead of time and instead of fear and worry at the time of his birth we had already accepted that he would have DS and it was a time of joy. my son has down syndrome...big deal....he is just like so many other kids his age he still learns laughs loves and plays....he is is not defined by it, he is first and foremost our son and that is all that really matters.

What can i expect from an ultrasound in week 6/7 of pregnancy?

I am having my first ultrasound tomorrow morning and i am wanting to know what i can expect to see or find out. Can they tell if it is twins? can they tell if everything is going well and the baby is healthy? will i be able to hear the heartbeat?

Odds are you are getting a transvaginal ultrasound, so be prepared to drop your pants and get a condomed probe put in your vagina.

At 6 weeks the baby is the size of an M&M, at 7 weeks about the size of a berry. So you may or may not see anything. If you don't see a baby don't get upset, many women who get a transvaginal ultrasound that early don't see anything.

The heart will be a tiny U shaped tube that you may or may not be able to see this early.

Fun ways to get my husband involved in my pregnancy?

I recently found out that I am pregnant and I am trying to come up with ways to "include" my husband in my pregnancy. Of course he is already a part of it anyway, but I was trying to think of some neat things that will make him feel like he's important, too. It seems like people always lavish attention on the mother (and rightfully so!), but I just want to make sure all of his questions are answered and that he knows everything that is going on so he doesn't feel "left out". I do not expect him to come to all of my Dr. appointments because it is important for us that he be at work and make money. What are some unique ways that I can "keep him posted" so to speak?

Purchase some pregnancy books and read them together. Sign up for babycenter.com and forward him the e-mails you get from there - they have really great pictures of what your baby looks like every week of your pregnancy! Start a family album photo album or scrap book together for the baby to have some day - collect pictures of the both of you when you were young and growing up, and leave room for pictures of your new arrival. Start writing in a pregnancy journal together about all your hopes and dreams for the little one. Shop for baby things together. If you decide to create a gift registry later on, do it together and allow your husband to add things to it (my husband always gets a kick out of scanning stuff). Select and plan a nursery theme together, and make your husband part of the decorating process. Scan your TV channels for pregnancy-related television shows and watch them together. And just talk a lot - keep the lines of communication open and encourage him to ask lots of questions! Best of luck and congratulations!
