Nausea

Nausea

$51.97

Nausea is a complex sensation that results from the interaction of certain fixed biological factors, such as gender, with changeable psychological factors, such as anxiety. This is the first book to provide a complete, in-depth explanation of what we know about nausea, along with the latest research results on its causes and treatment. As it is the product of long-term collaboration between scientists from the three main approaches to studying and treating nausea--psychology, gastroenterology, and physiology--the information this book provides is both comprehensive and well integrated. The book is divided into two parts, on mechanisms and management, respectively, and four sections. The chapters in Section I introduce the concept of nausea as a protective control mechanism with individual dynamic thresholds, explain the function of nausea, review past and present conceptions of nausea, and describe the prevalence of nausea in different conditions. Section II includes four basic chapters that review what is known about the physiological bases of nausea. Other chapters explore the roles of the central nervous system, autonomic nervous system, endocrine system, and gastric dysrhythmias. Section III presents the difficult problem of measuring nausea, with chapters focusing on measuring nausea in humans and studying it in animals. Section IV forms the second part of the book, on the management of nausea. The main chapters cover nausea and its treatment in several conditions, including chronic nausea, diabetes, pregnancy, post-operative, cancer and its treatment, and provocative motion. A final chapter discusses future research, including three preliminary studies of novel treatment approaches.

SHOULD I TELL HIM ABOUT MY PREGNANCY?

... i go preg last year...father of my child wanted nothing to do, he wanted me to abort, seeing how bad the situation was getting and scared for my safety, i quit my job and moved away..seeing that we worked in the same place ... anyway mutual friends of us knew that him n i were having an affair before this ended badly and thru social networks (thru pregnancy pics) they found out about the reason i left...i havent spoken to him at all since nov...some people say by now he should know, that news like that spreads fast!
after thinking carefully i do not want him in my childs life, he has a serious drug prob n i dont plan to throw child support in his face for a child he called a "sin n mistake".... what would u do in my shoes? does he have a right to know thru me? fyi im early 20s he is late 40's...so yea we are grown adults...
to clarify, i lied n told him that i had aborted in Nov...

"So yea HE is a grown adult"

Fixed that for you.

As long as you NEVER tell that child who is father is, don't tell him. If you are going to tell the child eventually, which made lead to this person tracking down the father, he should know.

Basically, if there is a chance he will find out EVENTUALLY, let him know now. Otherwise, he is just going to be more upset YOU didn't tell him and someone else did.

Granted, he may be just as pissed, but still. Better you control the situation as best you can now, then have it jump up and bite you one day.

Bleeding During Pregnancy (Paperback)

Bleeding During Pregnancy (Paperback)

$45.1

The phenomenon of bleeding has been shown to appear in up to 22% of all pregnancies and is associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidities, and even mortality. Although vaginal bleeding occurs mainly during the first trimester, it can appear at any stage of pregnancy and in the postpartum period. This sometimes life-threatening event requires an extensive work-up in order to recognize its cause and establish a rapid and effective therapeutic approach. This book is a comprehensive appraisal of this critical condition. It draws on evidence-based data and brings together, in a single volume, updated information on all aspects of pregnancy-related bleeding. A global group of interdisciplinary experts contributed chapters on: bleeding during early pregnancy (early pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy, gestational trophoblastic disease, and cancer of the reproductive tract during pregnancy); bleeding in late pregnancy (preterm delivery, placental abruption, placenta previa, vasa previa and uterine rupture); and postpartum hemorrhage.

Did you start showing earlier with your second pregnancy?

I'm 13 wks with #2 and I'm mostly feeling pudgy and uncomfortable in my clothes, but I can still wear them. I started showing around 16-18 wks with my first. I'm wondering if I'll pop out a little earlier the second time around. I'm petite anyway (about 5'5 and 112 lbs) so there's not much room for a baby to hide. When did you start to show with each of your pregnancies? Did you find that it got progressively earlier?

Several of my friends and family definately said they started showing sooner and more with their 2nd pregnancies. Some of them I was close with and saw during first pregnancies and second pregnancies you could definately tell a difference. My mom said she showed more with the first than the 2nd so I guess it goes either way but I hear most people say they show more with the 2nd+ pregnancies.

I did want to say congrats on baby #2 coming! I followed you through ttc #1 as I was (and still am) ttc #1. We are doing IVF so hopefully we get baby #1 soon!

Best wishes on this pregnancy!!!

not sure if this was mucus plug or not?? (first pregnancy)?

sorry if its TMI, i just went to toilet and saw that there was a small blob about size of a 5 cent piece on my knickers. it was a creamy kinda colour i was just wondering if this sounds like the mucus plug, also how big is the plug usually? it didn't have blood in it, does it always usually contain blood.
i did google it but i thought i could ge more info off those who have actually experienced it

just one more question how long after you loose your plug do you go into labour my lmp due date is the 21st of november and my AUA due date is the 18th.

That deff sounds like your mucus plug. It can vary in size; and come out all at once or a little hear and there over the course of days or weeks and some never even see there plug it just comes out when the water breaks or they just dont pay attention to the toilet i suppose. It does not mean that labor is imminent. Some people loose their mucus plug days and even weeks before labor starts. My experience.. I lost mine over the past week or so and it had no blood what so ever in it..this is common; some peoples are streaked with blood and others are not. It does not mean something is wrong so no worries.

Congrats!! Best of Wishes

What are the odds I'm pregnant?

I've been having the following symptoms:
1. Everything smells funny and tastes weird to me.
2. I was pretty nauseated this morning but it could have been something I ate.
3. I'm soooo moody. Up and down for the past week or two. Really bad! I'll be laughing one minute and crying the next...I think I may be going insane!
4. Had a dream I was pregnant a few nights ago. Last pregnancy dream I had...I was pregnant....

Facts:

1. I've been on the birth control pill YAZ for the past 3 years but I never take it like I should. I skip periods, and forget to take it between 1-2 times a week.
2. I smoke, so maybe that has something to do with the symptoms?!?
3. I don't know...what do you think is causing this? I feel weird.
And my BF and I use the pull out method....which is stupid I know...I feel kinda safe taking the BC.
And my BF and I use the pull out method....which is stupid I know...I feel kinda safe taking the BC.
I already took a test and it said negative.

I am in the Medical Field

You are on YAZ which makes you skip periods...
You are at risk for stroke and heart attack as it explicitly says DO NOT smoke while taking the pill

If you can NOT remember than you should be on another form of BC such as the Patch or IUC

Yes it is possible you could be pregnant. Be advised that if you are pregnant and you are taking the pill you can have a Spontaneous Abortion ( Miscarriage)

The conception process takes a full month
2 weeks for the fertilization and implantation process and another 2 weeks for enough HCG to accumulate in your system to test positive on an HPT

Any suggestions on cute tops to wear to cover/hide a pregnant belly?

My familiy is getting together for pictures this weekend, and we haven't told anyone yet that we have twins on the way. I'm only 10 weeks, so my belly isn't huge yet, but I'm definitely showing. It's our first pregnancy, so we want to keep it a secret for another 3 weeks.

Babydoll or Imperial cut tops can help you to disguise the belly, and they're in vogue so no one will see you in a different way... also you can use layers of clothing, like a nice summer sweater over your outfit that hides your belly. Sweaters that have pockets in the front disguise your tummy...

hope that helps...

good luck and congratulations!!!

People suffering depression: What meds are you on and how did you find your doctor?

I think I am in a serious depression. I used to take Parnate about 18 years ago for post partum depression. I don't take it anymore, but in all honesty, I have never recovered from my 2nd pregnancy. Now, lately, it has gotten worse and I need to go back on medication, but where do i start? I don't want to do anything that takes effort.

I'm on Effexor. I also tried Citalopram/Celexa, and Prozac. The Prozac didn't shift the depression but was great at reducing anxiety.

I've read about Parnate; apparently it's amazing and really achieves significant mood elevation.

You can ask your doctor to refer you to a psychiatrist; he can then evaluate you properly. If he knows that Parnate helped you before, he may offer you that again.

Hope you feel better soon.

Arguments abound about whether psychiatric medicines are over- or underprescribed, even as their use in childhood and adolescence has become commonplace. Knowing how various medicines work, their side effects and doses, will help parents understand their child`s experience. And if you are considering medication for your child, the crucial question is, could it help? This book is an overview of the four groups of medicines most commonly used in child and adolescent psychiatry-for ADHD, depression and anxiety, psychosis, and mood disorders. It discusses not only the drugs but also how they work in the body, as well as the culture of today`s medical practice. Kevin T. Kalikow offers measured advice on how to evaluate and treat young people with medicine and how to decide if medicine isn`t the right course of action. It is essential reading for anyone who needs to wade through the complicated-and often contradictory-medical information about kids and drugs.
